Is your main target audience women? You may want to get on Pinterest ASAP!

Your mom may not be the most tech savvy member of your family, but she is more likely to shop online, follow a brand on a social network, or visit Pinterest.

With Mother’s Day approaching, Nielsen looked at the online activities of American Moms. The report, The Digital Lives of American Moms, paints a portrait of women who rely on the Web not just for convenience and savings, but social connections and medical information.

America’s moms are shopping for a wide range of items online at a greater rate than most Americans in an effort to save time and money. “Moms are 35 percent more likely to shop for clothes, 50 percent more likely to buy toys, 29 percent more likely to buy music, and 23 percent more likely to purchase e-books online within the past 30 days,” according to the study, which was released Friday. The study compares mothers to the average American.

Moms can also take credit for fueling the rise of one of the most buzzed-about social sites, Pinterest. They were 61 percent more likely to visit the site than average Americans, according to the study. Mom visits to Pinterest accounted for 4.9 million views in March, making it the most-visited site among American moms for the month.

Disney Online ranked just below Pinterest among most popular sites for moms with 4.8 million views, followed by the iVillage Network (4.4 million), WebMD (4.2 million) and Everyday Health (3.8 million).

As with most Web users, moms are also going online to connect at a high rate. Three out of four American moms visited Facebook in March, and one out of three bloggers are now moms. Facebook was the top social network among moms, followed by Blogger, Twitter and WordPress. Tumblr has not yet seemed to catch on with the group, with just over 8 percent of moms visiting the site in March.

Moms did prove to be mobile-savvy: 50 percent visited a social network through their mobile devices in March, compared to just 37 percent of the general population. About 54 percent of moms own smartphones.

Instead of clicking a ton of buttons to share content, wouldn’t it be awesome if there was just one button that would share to all your social media channels. Read this great article by Forbes.

Facebook has shown how much we love to share things online. It has also shown how valuable that sharing is to Facebook. The data collected from close to a billion people sharing random thoughts, photos, videos, brand affinity, and product recommendations on the social network is, more than anything, the reason why it looks like investors will give Facebook a stunning $100 billion valuation when it goes public around May 18. Advertisers are eager to target likely customer prospects based on their social connections and interests with a precision they haven’t had before.

But people aren’t sharing things only on Facebook, pervasive as it is. Thanks to those prosaic little buttons on nearly every Web site, they’re sharing stuff all from over the Web on Twitter, Pinterest, Google+, StumbleUpon, Reddit, LinkedIn, and more. And as on Facebook, all that sharing is producing a wealth of data.

A little-known group of companies, including Clearspring and ShareThis, has aggregated those buttons for Web publishers, helping millions of them draw more traffic and figure out what content is resonating with their audiences. Now, they’re also looking to use all the data they collect on that sharing to help advertisers target potential customers like Facebook, but across the entire Web. And we’re talking a lot of people.

Today, Clearspring, which is changing its name to that of its main product, the sharing button aggregating tool AddThis, is announcing it now reaches 1.3 billion users on 14 million sites with that tool. That’s a really big audience, double Yahoo‘s 600 million, for instance. It’s also adding a number or products it calls social plug-ins: a follow button tool that allows people to follow a site or brand across multiple social networks with one click, a trending content tool that automatically highlight a site’s or brand’s most popular content in real time, and a “welcome” tool that lets Web publishers send an incoming visitor to a page that has a personalized greeting and a call to action.

What’s most interesting from an advertising standpoint is that the growth of that audience, combined with technology from last year’s acquisition of XGraph that identifies audiences by their interests and social connections, provides a Facebook-like opportunity for brands to target people at large scale. “We’re helping advertisers and publishers unlock the value of the social Web using data … in a broader way than Facebook,” says cofounder and executive chairman Hooman Radfar.

And make no mistake: It’s a lot of data–some 70 terabytes a week, the size of the Library of Congress–and a lot of activity, about 70 billion actions a day.

Still, it remains to be seen whether the data from these prosaic little buttons will offer an alternative to Facebook’s already appealing targeting capabilities, let alone transform advertising. Radfar says the company tripled revenues last year, but only to a reported $30 million.

Did you know that Apple sold 3 million new iPads just three days after their launch? It took 80 days for the first generation of iPads to reach 3 million in sales. What does this mean? Apple upped the ante in their marketing.

Apple sells because they market their products as “must-haves.” The new iPad really doesn’t have many new features, except the retina display and the 5MP iSight camera, but the public still lusts after it. Apple marketed the new iPad as the coolest new toy you just can’t be without. That’s because Apple customers know that no matter what, they are getting the absolute best quality product – just as Steve Jobs wanted it. And the truth is, they don’t want to live without it!

Do you want to make your company, brand or product irresistible to your customers? Chispa Marketing can help you get the results you’re looking for. Ask us how!

Anthropologie is encouraging women to bring their own shopping bags each time they visit a store, and in return, they will donate ten cents to EarthCorps of The Chez Panisse Foundation Edible Schoolyard. This organization has brought young people together from across the United States since 1993 envisioning a public school curriculum that includes hands-on experiences in school kitchens, gardens, and lunchrooms, and that provides healthy, freshly prepared meals as part of each school day.

Social responsibility allows companies, like Anthropologie and the popular Tom’s, to have a positive impact on the development of business and society with a positive contribution to a particular cause.
